Island Takeaway is proud to serve the College Park community from our home at 3230 Washington Road, where island flavor is served with Caribbean/southern hospitality. While our current location represents a new chapter, the spirit behind our kitchen was born generations ago — and still lives on in every bite.
Our family’s culinary journey began with our beloved grandmother, affectionately known as Sista Gee — the matriarch who held down the kitchen with grace and fire. Her legendary recipes and deep-rooted passion for Jamaican cooking were passed down to her son, Jacko, a man whose name still carries weight on the Southside. Jacko brought flavor and pride to every pot he stirred, and today, his legacy lives on through the hands and hearts behind Island Takeaway.
From bold jerk chicken to tender curry goat, from vegan brown stew to Escovitch red snapper, every dish we serve carries the story of our lineage. This isn’t just food — it’s heritage on a plate.
We’ve been blessed with support from the community — from first-time visitors saying “The food is delish!” to regulars who call us the “best Jamaican spot in the area.” Guests rave about the flavorful curry chicken, the “heat and tenderness” of the goat, and the kind of service that makes them feel like family. Many say the moment they walk in, “it feels like home.” That means everything to us.
At Island Takeaway, we don’t just serve food — we serve heritage. Every dish is made fresh with premium ingredients island spices, and real love. It’s not just cooking. We’re honoring our roots. We’re carrying a name. And we’re making sure Island Spice in Every Bite isn’t just a slogan — it’s a promise.
